Director of SecOps and Platform Engineering

The Director of Security Operations & Platform Engineering will be responsible for building and leading the teams that protect, scale, and optimize Better Trucks’ technology platform. This leader will define and execute the strategy for security operations, cloud infrastructure, reliability, and developer enablement, partnering closely with product engineering, data science, and operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set the vision, establish standards, and roll up your sleeves when needed to build automation, review architecture, or dive deep on incidents.

Key Responsibilities

Security Operations

  • Lead the design and execution of Better Trucks’ security program across applications, APIs, data, and infrastructure.

  • Own incident response, threat detection, and monitoring, ensuring rapid detection and remediation of vulnerabilities.

  • Implement and manage controls aligned with SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, and GDPR/CCPA requirements.

  • Oversee vendor and third-party risk management programs.

  • Champion privacy, data protection, and compliance across engineering and operations.

Platform Engineering

  • Lead the platform and DevOps strategy across GCP, with a focus on multi-region resilience, scalability, and reliability.

  • Drive adoption of infrastructure as code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment practices.

  • Ensure modern architectures for web applications, APIs, distributed mobile apps, and event-driven systems.

  • Partner with engineering teams to build internal platforms, developer tooling, and observability frameworks.

  • Establish and enforce SLOs, RTO/RPO targets, and DR/BCP testing practices.

Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing Security Ops and Platform Engineering team.

  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations leaders to embed resilience, compliance, and security by design.

  • Report program health, risks, and improvements to the CTO and executive team.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in security operations, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure leadership roles.

  • Deep hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GKE, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Armor, IAM, VPCs, Global Load Balancing).

  • Strong background in modern web app and API architectures, microservices, distributed mobile apps, and event-driven systems.

  • Nice to have: Experience in modern cloud-native engineering and software development practices, enabling close collaboration with product engineering teams.

  • Proven track record building and leading DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineering teams in a growth-stage or enterprise environment.

  • Experience with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, CCPA) and working with auditors/regulators.

  • Familiarity with container orchestration (GKE/Kubernetes), CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build), and observability tools (Cloud Monitoring, Datadog, etc.).

  • Strong communication and leadership skills — able to influence both executives and engineers.
